In November 2014 I began working on a constant current dummy load project. The project was deliberately simple and was a way of learning the basics of controlling a MOSFET based current sink from a microcontroller and DAC. I learned a lot about loop compensation, using LTSPICE to model circuits and discovered how hard it is to build GUIs for tiny LCD screens!
The intention was that this project would be a pre-cursor to developing my own lab power supply (as well as a tool I could use to test the lab supply).
While it is pretty precise it is also quite underpowered and not the quietest output in the world. One day I might go nuts and rebuild it with constant power and constant resistance modes as well as designing it a PCB.
